Behind our Name 

Atokan is the name given to the geological series in the Middle Pennsylvanian of the Carboniferous Period of North America and belongs to the Paleozoic Era. It is underlain by the Morrowian and overlain by the Desmoinesian Series.  It is roughly contemporaneous with the Vereiskian and Kashirskian Stages of the Moscovian Seires.  Overall, it represents approximately four million years of Earth's history, from 311.7 to 308 million years ago.
